4th International Winter School in Jewish Studies
Jewish Cultures and Media of Transmission: From Prague Into the World
Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies at University of Amsterdam; The Open University of Israel; King’s College London and The Prague Centre for Jewish Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague now invite applications for the 4th International Winter School in Jewish Studies.
The aim of the Winter School is to develop insight and research skills in Jewish Studies through a paradigmatic subject: Jewish Cultures and Media of Transmission. The students will learn how to formulate a research question and strategy, and how to execute an analysis of primary and/or secondary sources as the basis for writing a research report. A substantial part of the course will be devoted to the interaction between study of sources and the analysis of geography, material culture and the arts, by combining lectures, havruta-sessions, and professionally guided excursions.
The students will gain this knowledge under the supervision of international experts at the crossroads of philosophy, cultural history, religious studies and anthropology. A final added value is the networking opportunities between Czech, British, Israeli and Dutch faculty and students.
Position paper (20%): Before the beginning of the course, each participant hands in a position paper (ca. 1500 words) in which the assigned literature is discussed and related to the student’s
own research interest.
Deadline: 9 January 2020.
Final paper (80%): Following the Winter School each student writes a final paper (5000 words), based on the student’s own research question, which summarizes and reflects upon the programme’s lectures, excursions and literature. The results of each individual research project should be analysed from the broader perspective of the Winter School.
Deadline: 10 February 2020.
Students who meet all the requirements prescribed will gain 6 credits, i.e. equivalent of one-semester course.
Students of B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. programmes who are interested in the subject are invited to apply. Applications should include a CV and a short cover letter describing the applicant’s previous academic experience and the expected benefits of the Winter School.
Applications should be sent to email@example.com by 10 December 2019. Successful applicants will be notified by 16 December 2019.
