Eduard Gombár

Prof. PhDr. Eduard Gombár, CSc. is a professor of International Political Relations who specializes in the modern and contemporary history of Islamic countries and Islam in general. In 2004-14, he was the Director of the Institute of Near Eastern and African Studies, Charles University. He has published 8 monographs: Revolučně demokratické strany na Blízkém východě (Revolutionary Democratic Parties in the Middle East), Úvod do dějin islámských zemí (Introduction into the History of Islamic Countries), Moderní dějiny islámských zemí (Modern History of Islamic Countries), Dramatický půlměsíc (Dramatic Crescent), Kmeny a klany v arabské politice (Tribes and Clans of Arabic Politics), Kmeny a klany v arabském Maghribu (Tribes and Clans in Arabic Maghrib), Dějiny Egypta (History of Egypt), Dějiny Iráku (History of Iraq), and Dějiny Libye (History of Libya). In his academic career, he has visited Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Palestine, Israel, Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. He participated in conferences and held lectures at several European universities: Grenoble, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Oxford, London, München, Erlangen, Leipzig, Budapest, Halle, Wien, Cambridge, Paris, Mainz, Roma, Aix-en-Provence, Hamburg, Poznań, Napoli, Barcelona, Bruxelles, Strasbourg.
